Aubrey Lodewyk with Jose Dias
Lodewyk Jose Dias will play a programme that includes arias and lieder by Mozart, Gounod, Donizetti, Lortzing and Lehar, as Mahler’s Ruckertlieder and Liederkreis by Robert Schumann, a colourful voyage with highlights for his voice.
Aubrey Lodewyk is considered to be on of South Africa’s most talented and vocally versatile baritones. He has sung widely in South Africa and with Cape Town Opera sang in Germany, Sweden and Wales. He received rave reviews in the UK’s Opera magazine after performing the role of Mandela in The Mandela Triology at the Royal Festival Hall. In 2016 he performed the role of Papageno in the Magic Flute , accompanied by the German Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra at the Johannesburg Theatre. His links with the Wagner Society go back to the time when he was a brilliant Germano, the somewhat naive servant in its production of Rossini’s La Scala di Seta.
Portguese-born Jose Dias is in growing demand as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. He studied in Stellenbosch and Zurich, and has been repetiteur at Cape Town Opera. He is a major presence in South African concert halls and Festivals, and has performed in Portugal, Israel, Switzerland, Belgium, Belgium, Austria, The Netherlands and Germany.
