REPETITEUR AND VOCAL COACH

Lisa Engelbrecht has a special affinity with the Richard Wagner Society, having been it’s reperiteur and vocal choir for the 2011 production of The Flying Dutchman, and for the 2012 production of Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma at the Artscape Theatre in February.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance and singing from the University of Cape Town; the Diploma di Perfezzionamento from the Piccolo Conservatorio in Milan; a postgraduate diploma from Delety in Advanced Performance from the Royal College of Music in London, where she studied on a Leverhulme Scholarship; a Master of Music from the University of Illinois in 1990; and a Doctor of Music from UCT. She has gained wide experience through her studies in Milan, with Emma Renzi at Wits, as vocal coach and repetiteur with the British Youth Opera in London, at Les Jeunes Voix du Rhin (Opera National du Rhin) in Strasbourg, at the Renata Scotto Academy in Italy, at the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, and at Glimmerglass Opera, New York. She is currently principal vocal coach at the
Opera School of the SA College of Music at the University of Cape Town, where has coached the singers for many of the recent productions including Puccini’s La Boheme, Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen (in Czech), Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. She is at present coaching the next production by the SA College of Music, Mozart’s Entführung aus dem Serail.
